Sexual transmitted infections can lead to infertility, poor health and in some cases death. It is important that you are aware of how to maintain good sexual health and the support you can receive to assist you with this.

STI testing

If you have had sexual contact with someone without using a condom, you may be at risk of an STI. Not all STI’s have symptoms so if you think you may have been at risk it is important to get tested.

Yorkshire MESMAC

Hull Testing Times drop in sessions in Hull offer a full sexual health screening including:

• a rapid (1 minute) test for HIV and Syphilis.
• Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea screening (self-taken Vaginal swab or Urine sample).
• Pregnancy testing (Urine sample).

This service is available at the following times -

• Tuesdays: 10am to 1pm
• Wednesdays: 1pm to 4pm
• Thursdays: 4pm to 7pm

There are many different types of contraception available. Condoms are the only form of contraception that can protect you from both unplanned pregnancy and STI’s.

There are advantages and disadvantages to each type so it's important to choose one that best suits your relationship and lifestyle. Your GP will be able to advise you on the different types of contraception.

Emergency contraception

If you have had unprotected sex or your contraception method has failed, you can obtain emergency contraception (also known as the 'morning after pill') from your pharmacist.

Hull has a dedicated service provided by the City Health Care Partnership, where you can access advice and information. You can also make an appointment to discuss your sexual health with a health professional.

The Warren

The Warren provides support for 16 - 25 year olds including general information on –

• sexual health
• referral to other services
• pregnancy tests
• free condoms

They also offer one to one counselling for young people.
