Access to services

Being able to get out and about is a big part of everyday life. As a local resident it is your right to have access to range of amenities including –

Shops
Cafes, bars, pubs and restaurants
Public and community transport
Leisure and community centres
Cinema, bowling, bingo etc.
Sporting events i.e. watching a Football and Rugby Match
Hair and beauty facilities
Libraries, museums, theatres and halls.
Public toilets
Colleges and Training centres
Parks and gardens

Reasonable Adjustments

The Law states that a facility or service has to provide reasonable adjustments so that you can access a particular service. What is deemed a reasonable adjustment will depend on –

your disability
how practicable the changes are
if the change you ask for would overcome the disadvantage you and other disabled people experience
the size of the organisation
how much money and resources are available
the cost of making the changes
If any changes have already been made.

Guide dogs

It is against the law to refuse entry because someone has a guide dog due to their care and support needs. If you have been refused entry because you have a guide dog, then you should talk to one of our support organisations who will be able to help you with what steps you need to take.

The Access Able website provides online Access Guides to venues across the UK You can find detailed information about access to all kinds of places including hotels, cinemas, hospitals, sports grounds, restaurants, council offices, parks and tourist attractions.

National Access Register

The online National Access Register allows you to search for shops, businesses, hotels, and toilets etc. which are accessible for disabled people.
